In The Spotlight: Chesney's Stoves – Vision for a New Generation

Chesney’s was founded nearly 40 years ago by Paul Chesney, and is still a family-owned run business, but during the intervening years it has developed a unique portfolio of luxury heating products and become a globally recognized brand.  It now has showrooms in London, New York, Shanghai and Beijing. It also has over 200 authorized Stockists selling its products throughout the UK, Europe, Japan and Australasia.  Chesney’s goal is to lead the way with clean and efficient combustion technology, so that you can enjoy your wood burning stove with a clear conscience. This is why Chesney’s decided to eliminate multi fuel stoves from their range in 2022.

Chesney’s vision for wood burning stoves is that they should be the Best in Class for design, performance and emissions, this was the challenge given to their research and development team, and they have delivered!  Chesney’s have two former engineers from Rolls-Royce and Bentley join them and following a relentless period of design, engineering and testing, they have developed a New Generation of wood burning stoves that are outstanding.  The new stoves are driven by an entirely new combustion system, that is highly efficient, clean, and exceed current regulatory requirements to an unprecedented degree.

Their stoves are DEFRA exempt for installation in smoke control areas, such as towns and cities.  They also meet the efficiency standards prescribed by Eco-design 2022 legislation and the ClearSkies scheme.  However, the performance of most of Chesney’s wood burning stoves exceeds the requirements of all these schemes to an unprecedented degree. Chesney’s new generation of wood burning stoves are at the forefront of going beyond the tough emissions standards, so you can feel good about making one these stunning wood burning stoves a focal point in your home.

Chesney’s also manufacture Gas stoves in some of their models, these are a simple and streamlined alternative to a wood burning fire. Their beautifully designed collection features a variety of silhouettes, materials, and finishes to suit any style of home decor – all that’s left for you to do is choose one that’s perfect for you. They have succeeded in creating a fire that emulates the flame pattern of a real fire with individually hand painted logs that produce a deep lifelike glow. Unique in both functionality and appearance, each Chesney’s model uses the very latest technology to deliver high-level efficiency.

The Salisbury

The most popular stove in the heritage collection, the appeal of the Salisbury lies in its simple uncluttered design which gives it a timeless traditional quality.  The Salisbury 4WS is the smallest of the Salisbury range is ideal for those cosy rooms where a little less heat is required.

The Salisbury 5WS is the most popular stove, its heat output making it the perfect choice for many rooms. In its new form the Salisbury 5 also has a hidden soft closing door mechanism which allows the door to open and close without the turn of a door handle.  The beautifully faceted handle that has always been a key aspect of the Salisbury design has been retained as a purely decorative feature. Incorporating new combustion technology, driving an efficiency rating of 86.4% and remarkably low smoke emissions of only 0.7 grammes of smoke per hour, its energy and environmental credentials are unrivalled.

In its recently updated form, the Salisbury 8KW wood burning stove boasts outstanding levels of efficiency and extremely low emissions but otherwise little has changed from the stove that was launched to widespread acclaim 15 years ago.  The Salisbury 8 WS stove is available in two forms as a standard single aspect stove and as a double-sided stove creating the opportunity for two adjoining rooms to share the heat and welcoming ambience that the stove generates.

The Salisbury 12 WS is the most powerful stove in the entire Chesney's range, it has a huge burning area of viewing glass and with an output of 11 KW we've yet to find a room it won't heat!  Large enough to accommodate an 18-inch log, its heat output is prodigious.

The Sanctuary 5WS and 5WS LS

The sleek minimalist beauty of The Sanctuary is emphasised by the absence of a handle to open the stove. The design has a hidden touch point which facilitates this action and allows the door to open and close.  This 5KW stove has a curvaceous door, large viewing window and comes with a choice of steel or brass door furniture and a finely knurled air control lever. Named The Sanctuary, this stove is there for those quiet moments when you want to shut out the world and enjoy some peace, tranquillity, and warmth.  The Sanctuary 5WS wood burning stove is DEFRA exempt for use in smoke control areas which means it can be safely and legally used in all major towns and cities throughout the UK. It produces minimal emissions that are one tenth of the level that a comparable DEFRA exempt stove is permitted to produce and has an efficiency rating of 86.4%.  The Sanctuary wood burning stove is available in both a freestanding form and with a log base.

The Beaumont

The classical styling at the Beaumont owes much to Chesney’s history as a dealer in antique chimney pieces and a familiarity with architectural form.  The Beaumont features elegant swept cabriole legs and a classically corniced top tier above a large glass viewing area.  The smallest stove in the Beaumont range it includes all the finely detailed features make it a suitable choice for even the most formal of rooms.

The scale and performance of our Heritage stoves have benefited from the recent introduction of new conduction technology. The Beamont 5 WS stove has been redesigned from top to bottom.  It still retains its distinctive architectural features, but it is taller now than before and has Chesney’s unique new soft touch closing mechanism. Its performance is outstanding, recording efficiency levels of over 86% and emissions of only 0.7 grammes of smoke per hour, making it one of the cleanest and most efficient stoves on the market.

With its elegant and refined appearance, the Beaumont 8 WS MK3 stove will look at home in the most sophisticated of interiors.  As with every stove in Chesney’s entire range, the Beaumont 8 WS MK3 wood burning stove is Defra exempt for using smoke control areas, which means it can be safely and legally used to burn logs in all major cities and towns throughout the UK.

Shoreditch 5WS LS

The design of the Shoreditch was originally inspired by details seen in a modernist National Trust property in Hampstead, London.  The clean uncluttered lines of the Shoreditch allow it to sit comfortably in a wide range of room styles, making it one of the most versatile designs in the Heritage collection. In its redesigned form the Shoreditch has a narrow band of steel framing the glass window allowing an improved view of the fire and is taller and deeper to accommodate a larger fire box which outs which delivers outstanding efficiency and emissions.  The Shoreditch wood burning stove demonstrates its versatility, sitting comfortably in the most traditional of interiors.  It also incorporates Chesney’s new soft touch door mechanism.  The Shoreditch 4WS with its economic design and simple door handle is perfect for a smaller room that requires less heat.  The Shoreditch 5WS LS is also available raised above a generous log store base.

A stove like no other, the Alpine shines brightly as a unique and eye-catching model in the Heritage collection of stoves.  It is difficult to think of a wood burning stove that makes more of this design statement than the Alpine.  The Alpine produces minimal emissions that are one tenth of the level that a comparable Defra exempt stove is permitted to produce and has an efficiency rating of 85.2%.  A stove like no other the Alpine shines brightly as a unique and idiosyncratic model in the Heritage collection of stoves, ashamedly retro in its design it displays eye-catching door furniture and other adornments all of which are executed in a beautiful, nickel-plated finish.

Chesney's Gas Fires

Chesney's new generation of gas fires are outstanding in their design, build and performance. The flame patterns are highly realistic, emulating a real fire with a deep glow and generous flames playing over individually hand painted logs. The range included modern and traditional styles in natural gas or LPG. The fires have been designed with under-log burners and a control function that keeps the flame picture alive on a low setting. Control of the fire is easy using a single slide control lever which is not linked to a power source (so you can keep warm in a power cut) and which allows he user to turn the appliance on and off along with easily adjusting the flame height. The performance of these fires is outstanding with a high efficiency rating of 84% and a heat output up to 5.3kW on high setting.
